Exploring Neuroscience with TRP Channel Product Portfolio from Creative Biolabs

October 08 20:56 2021
The seminal discoveries by this year’s Nobel Prize laureates have explained how heat, cold and touch can initiate signals in the nervous system. The identified ion channels are important for many physiological processes and disease conditions. As a pioneer in the field of biotechnology, Creative Biolabs has been closely following the latest advances in neuroscience research, and is committed to the development of the most advanced reagents to assist ion channel research.

New York, USA – October 8, 2021 – Two neuroscientists, David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian have been awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their “discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch.” Their findings reveal how external stimuli affect ion channels, which in turn trigger nerve impulses and enable humans to perceive the world. Specifically, their groundbreaking discoveries of TRPV1, TRPM8, and Piezo channels explain how heat, cold, and mechanical force initiate nerve impulses. In addition, their work lays the foundation for the development of translational applications and treatments for a wide range of disease conditions, including chronic pain.

With years of exploration in neurobiology, Creative Biolabs’ neural program has updated its one-stop services to enhance clients’ research by providing a series of scientific research products for ion channel research, including monoclonal antibodies, polyclonal antibodies, labeled antibodies, proteins, analytical kits, and small molecule activators and inhibitors.

At the neural level, the molecular receptors that perceive external stimuli are the biological basis of the human sensory systems. The process can be colloquially understood as “receiving stimuli, transmitting signals, and the brain receiving and responding to them.” Ion channel receptors play a vital role in the biological processes that involve rapid changes in cells. They are an important part of nervous system signaling, allowing rapid and direct conversion of a chemical neurotransmitter message to an electrical current.

Transient receptor potential (TRP) channels are a group of ion channels that are expressed ubiquitously and are activated by a wide range of stimuli. TRPV1 and TRPM8 are part of a large superfamily of TRP ion channels that respond to a wide array of physical and chemical stimuli, including cold, cooling agents like menthol, acidity, and bioactive lipids.

In addition, studies have shown that TRPV1 is related to inflammation-related pain sensitivity. This discovery has become the focus of research and development of new analgesics. More than a dozen related drugs are currently in different stages of preclinical and clinical trials.

“As a participant in neurological research, our research team has leveraged our expertise and proprietary methods to provide a variety of TRP channel related services and products,” said a scientist at Creative Biolabs. “We understand that the reliability of reagents is of utmost importance to researchers. Our high level of collaboration allows us to respond quickly to our clients’ needs while maintaining our focus on high-quality deliverables.”
